The Garden of Love

I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen:
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
And 'Thou shalt not' writ over the door;
So I turned to the Garden of Love
That so many sweet flowers bore.

And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tombstones where flowers should be;
And priests in black gowns were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars my joys and desires

The Garden of Love (William Blake)

*

E 'Tu non devi' scritto sulla porta;
Così mi volsi verso il Giardino dell'Amore
Che tanti dolci fiori portava.

E vidi che era pieno di tombe,
E pietre tombali dove dovevano essere i fiori;
E preti in nere vesti andavano attorno,

What a powerful pairing of words and image. Very emotive.
ah but I see that the door is ajar and beyond, bathed in light, is a field of green and flowers...though shalt enter, it seems to beckon.. smile Very evocative photo and poem, Nicola.
I love the look of the aged wood on the door. Lovely DOF. Beautiful words.

A beautiful combination of words and pictures. That poem has always made me think.

I like the contrast between the grey, grainy wood and the soft green of the grass through the gate.
